Upon landing on the Mactan Cebu International Airport, you want to feel that you are immediately in “holiday-mode”. The terminal has to be like a resort in itself and you can relax. This was the brief of the architects from IDA Hongkong. The main feature is on the departure level where a completely wooden ceiling with high arches greet you. We illuminated these arches with narrow beam uplights combined with small downlights for the general lighting. Countless calls, meetings, and, mock- ups with IDA Architects resulted in an award-winning structure that the Cebuano and Filipinos are truly proud of.
